on the BDC Masters program. These are the Biogen
($10,000) and Stewart-Anthony Family ($5,000)
scholarships. The former was championed by Paul
Petrelli, a member of the BDC Educational Advisory
Board and General Manager of Biogen Canada, while
the latter was the brainchild of Geordie Stewart, a PhD
graduate of McMaster’s Biochemistry program who is
currently doing an MBA in the DeGroote School of
Business. We’re especially grateful to these folks for
their generosity and encouragement. This benevolent
engagement of the BDC program by the community
means a great deal to our students.
This year has seen some more building of the BDC
team. We added staff member Michelle Trottier as our
new Career Development and Relationship Associate.
Michelle comes to us from the DeGroote School of
Business where she has worked as an undergraduate
Relationship Manager for the past year. In her new role,
she will be responsible for identifying, developing and
cultivating employer relationships in the pharmaceutical,
biotechnology and life sciences sector with the goal
of securing internship placements for BDC graduate
students. Michelle will also develop and deliver career/
professional development services to BDC students.
Michelle rounds out a dedicated group that includes
staff members Nancy McKenzie (Manager) and Jodi Biro
(Academic Assistant) who have had a fantastic year of
success in their efforts to shape this new program.
All in all, it has been a tremendous year of polishing
and continued building. Several faculty from BBS have
been key contributors this year including Lori Burrows,
Michelle MacDonald, Yingfu Li, Jon Schertzer and Gerry
Wright. We have also witnessed remarkable leadership
in particular by Felicia Vulcu who has been at the center
of both curriculum delivery and development. Indeed,
it has been great fun and hugely rewarding to work with
BDC faculty and staff, as well, others in both Biochemistry
and the Business school on this new program. Looking
forward to another great year in 2016/17.
